Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you for your interest in Riverview School . The information included here should provide you with a clear understanding of who we are and what we do best ...educate adolescents and young adults (ages 12 - 22) who share a common history of lifelong difficulty with academic achievement and the development of friendships. (The cognitive ability of the Riverview student falls between 70 and 100 on the WISC.) Many of our students have "fallen through the cracks" in previous settings, both socially and academically. Likewise, they often have not experienced success ...in school, in sports, or in social settings. Our goal is to take these students "off the bench and put them into the game" by providing them with typical teenage experiences.
The students who enroll at Riverview are ready for the "whole" experience ... ready to improve their academic skills, increase their independence, develop life skills, play sports or try new activities and make friends. Our programs are designed to promote self-esteem and increase self-confidence through a wide variety of success-oriented experiences.
As you view our application materials, we hope that you will share our enthusiasm for Riverview's programs and for our commitment to quality instruction and the personal growth of each student. We encourage you to contact the Admissions Office with any questions you may have about the School or the application process. We do require that all application materials be submitted prior to your visit. The Admissions Committee will carefully review your completed application to determine if an interview, tour and possible two-day visit is appropriate. (The admissions procedure is the same for middle, secondary, post-secondary and summer program applications.)
Riverview places a great deal of importance on the appropriateness of a candidate's total application, the number of male and female openings in each grade and dorm, and in ensuring a good fit between the applicant and the students currently enrolled. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
