In the spring of 2003, the Riverview School Board of Trustees asked Trustee Dr. Peter Capernaros to undertake a study in response to the concerns of some Riverview parents about the lack of appropriate or available placements for their sons and daughters after graduation. Dr. Capernaros compiled a comprehensive report with two objectives:
- To determine what role Riverview School could/should play in assisting parents to plan, develop, and/or operate life-long residential placements for Riverview graduates
- To help parents identify appropriate existing placements
This study consisted of two parts: the first provided a general overview of existing programs; the second consisted of a series of individual reports on each of the programs reviewed by Dr. Capernaros.
It was Dr. Capernaros’s wish that this report continue to be a valuable resource for families, and so Riverview School requested each program to provide an update to their listing.
We remain extremely grateful to Dr. Capernaros for his efforts in creating this report and hope that the information therein will be helpful to families as they consider independent living program options.
