Friends Together is an innovative new program, designed to foster lifelong community, connection, and opportunity for Riverview School alumni. Building on Riverview’s legacy of empowering young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Friends Together marks the start of an exciting new chapter of support and growth through meaningful social engagement, work experience, and inclusive living spaces. As a new face in the Hyannis community, we’re creating a vibrant, person-centered environment that celebrates each individual’s potential and promotes lasting community connections.
An Exciting
Future begins
In April 2024, Riverview School received a transformative philanthropic gift that made it possible to purchase the Twin Brooks Golf Course property in Hyannis, Massachusetts, launching plans for a new post-22 program. In October of that same year, Riverview acquired the conference center on the property, expanding the vision for a Hyannis campus beyond what we first imagined. Our team has been working diligently—planning, learning, and listening to the needs of our community. After recognizing the critical need for stable housing to support students in adulthood, a second philanthropic gift made it possible for Riverview to purchase the hotel portion of the property at 35 Scudder Avenue. Riverview now owns and operates the entire property, with big dreams for what lies ahead. While there is still much work to be done to bring this vision to life, we are moving forward and will continue to share updates along the way. Mission: Friends Together is a Riverview community committed to empowering adults to lead fulfilling lives by facilitating and cultivating lifelong connections and serving as a social, educational, and recreational center for participants and their families.
Vision: Riverview’s Friends Together program strives to be a vibrant social hub of connection and friendship where adults are empowered to explore interests, build relationships, and pursue opportunities that enrich their lives. Through dynamic programming that supports the pursuit of personal interests, alongside offerings in the arts, wellness, recreation, and career exploration, Friends Together fosters lifelong growth and meaningful community participation. In partnership with local organizations, the program expands inclusive opportunities for participants while serving as a trusted resource for participants and their families.
Values: When you become a member of the Riverview community, you will find a community for life. Friends Together provides a lifelong continuum of social connection, educational opportunities and work experiences; it is a space for individuals to flourish. At Friends Together, turning 22 is not a cliff or a cutoff; it is the start of a new chapter – one filled with opportunities to grow, pursue passions, and actively participate in community life. Each participant will be at the center of their own journey, with their interests, choices, and dreams guiding the path, and with the right people and resources surrounding them to help bring those goals to life. This approach nurtures a sense of belonging and purpose. Most importantly, Friends Together will live up to its name: a community that adults and their families can count on in moments of success, times of challenge, and all the days in between.
