A community for adult life

Friends Together is a new community designed to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in building full, connected, and meaningful adult lives. Created by Riverview School, Friends Together exists to ensure that adulthood is the beginning of a new chapter — a place where adults can grow skills, build relationships, explore interests, and remain connected to one another and to their broader community.

Friends Together offers structured programming, social and recreational opportunities, and shared community spaces that support lifelong growth, independence, and belonging. Our permanent site in Hyannis is planned to open in 2027 and is being designed intentionally to support adult life in all its richness.

What is Friends Together?

Friends Together Day Program (Weekdays)

The Day Program is designed for adults who want structure, purpose, and meaningful engagement during the day. Participants will build schedules that may include:

  • Skill-building for independent living
  • Wellness, fitness, and creative pursuits
  • Lifelong learning and personal interests
  • Community-based experiences
  • Opportunities to explore employment, civic life, and other forms of community contribution

For individuals who are eligible, the Day Program may be supported by MassHealth and/or DDS funding.

Social & Recreational Program (Evenings & Weekends)

Friends Together also offers a social and recreational program outside of traditional daytime hours. This program focuses on:

  • Building friendships and social connection
  • Shared leisure and recreational experiences
  • Participation in community life during evenings and weekends

At this time, the program is funded privately. Families are encouraged to explore whether existing DDS authorizations may support participation, depending on individual circumstances.
