who should apply?

Making Riverview Home
Riverview School places great importance on the appropriateness of a candidate’s total application. This includes the application and accompanying documents (IEP, Progress Reports, and Testing). Along with these documents, we also consider the number of openings in each grade and dorm, and weigh our decision heavily on the student’s interview and calls with professionals who know the student well. This ensures that they will thrive academically and socially within their peer group among students who are currently enrolled.

It’s a Great Time to Apply
We are accepting applications for Middle School/High School and GROW 2026 Summer and 2026/2027 School Year programs.
Our students
Riverview has a long-standing commitment to neurodiversity and continues to enroll students who are neurodivergent. Our curriculum supports a variety of children and young adults who learn differently.

There are many factors we take into account when considering students for our program. If your child meets the following criteria, they may be a candidate for Riverview:
- IQ and Achievement scores between 65–90 or functional abilities within that range (many times there is great variability)
- Diagnosed language, learning, and cognitive disabilities
- Desires to make friends and is interested in forming relationships with others
- Seeks social and extracurricular opportunities such as playing on sports teams, attending dances, participating in drama, music, art, and student government
- Responds well to a structured, supportive, predictable environment
- Would benefit academically in a more structured learning environment, as traditional learning environments have not adequately fostered the student’s academic capabilities
- Has mastered basic daily living skills, personal hygiene, and self-care
- Mild medical issues that complicate—but do not compromise—daily activities
- Be able to work within a 1:8 staff-to-student ratio
- There is an appropriate cohort available that will best support the success of the student
- Needs can be met with the supports and services we offer in our approved program
- Aligns within the programmatic composition and capacity of the School
Riverview is not a therapeutic setting and therefore, does not have the necessary supports to meet the needs of students with a significant history of emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric challenges.

Our program may not
be a fit for…
Riverview may not be the best educational setting for every student. While each student will be reviewed on an individual basis to determine whether Riverview is the appropriate setting to best meet their needs, the following learning profiles may be better served at educational settings where specialized services and expertise exist to meet their specific needs.
- Require intensive or 1:1 behavioral, medical, or emotional support beyond what our staff can safely provide.
- Demonstrate ongoing behaviors that significantly disrupt the learning environment or pose safety concerns for themselves or others.
- Have complex clinical needs that necessitate specialized therapeutic services.
