Building lifelong habits
At Riverview, we provide students with the tools and experiences to build lifelong healthy eating habits. From nutritious options in our dining hall and hands-on classes in our new Nutrition Center to family-style cooking in our GROW dorms, we aim to make healthy eating choices a natural part of daily life.

“Our teaching stations in the Nutrition Center allow for us to work as a group and have fun cooking. We want to make healthy eating fun and accessible, and this is a great environment to do that.”

Nutrition Education
Nutrition is integrated into daily life at Riverview. Students learn to fuel their bodies and minds with intention through cooking instruction, and healthy habits are reinforced across academic, residential, and dining settings.
Hands-On Learning
Starting in High School, students take introductory classes in Riverview’s new state-of-the-art Nutrition Center. They explore how food supports wellness and practice preparing simple, healthy meals and snacks, gaining confidence through hands-on learning in a professional space.

Practical Skills Development
In the GROW program, students gain real-world cooking experience by preparing some of their own meals, both in the Nutrition Center and in the dorms. They take classes during the academic day that combine nutrition education with foundational cooking skills, providing them with the tools to make a balanced meal from scratch. Students also participate in cooking a rotating menu of nutritious recipes in the dorms and shop for groceries with intention, teaching them essential skills such as meal planning, budgeting, and reading nutrition labels.
Healthy Choices in the Dining Hall
The dining hall at Riverview reinforces lessons learned in nutrition class, as staff members guide students in building a balanced meal. Students are encouraged to practice appropriate portioning and make thoughtful food choices every day.
