OUR MISSION

Riverview School is a community that values and celebrates multiplicity and individualism as essential to the experience of our students, staff and community. We embrace and respect differences, including but not limited to: neurodiversity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, cultural heritage, educational background, and of course learning styles. As a community that aspires to reflect and prepare our students for the increasingly cross-cultural world, Riverview supports and nurtures the whole child and their full identity.

Creating an Inclusive and Equitable Community

Nearly ten years ago, Riverview School formed a committee to explore our policies and programming. A dedicated group met, further embarking  in rich and robust education, to explore the aspects in our community that impact us as a school and individually. Through training, dialogues, book clubs and collaborative work, within our school, this movement has become known as Community Affairs. Our school’s existence is born out of the Disability Rights movement, with a mission to serve students who are diverse learners. We recognize that much (if not all) of our mission is already rooted in social justice principles. Our faculty and staff seek to affirm and celebrate differences, but now we are exploring our inclusivity in all regards, including but not limited to admissions, hiring practices and curricula. We have developed and continue to evolve a schoolwide framework to address ways in which we can create inclusivity with more intentionality in this community.
