STUDENT LIFE

school traditions

a year of excitement

Riverview’s calendar is filled with traditions and annual community gatherings that make each month special. Take a look below to see what’s happening around campus.

September

Opening Weekend welcomes families and students to campus. Events include Convocation, the Family Association Welcome Social, Student Activities, and a special New Family Brunch/Veteran Family Panel.

Middle School and GROW 1 students kick off the new school year by ringing the James Center bell in front of the whole school!

October

Families arrive to campus (some for the first time since Opening Day!) for Fall Family Weekend. Activities include a Fall Family Concert, class dinners for networking, and the much-anticipated Halloween Dance for families, staff, and students (costumes required!).

November

We regularly welcome CAPS Therapy Dogs to campus… it’s a great way to warm up the chilly winter months!

December

  • Students dress to the nines at the Winter Formal – Holiday Snowball Dance.
  • A vibrant Visual and Performing Arts Holiday Celebration welcomes families and friends, with a fun Family Association Social preceding the event.
February

Families challenge students in the action-packed Family vs. Student Basketball game!

March

  • Riverview hosts Transition Weekend for High School and GROW families. Filled with expert speakers, a veteran family panel Q&A, and plenty of opportunities to mingle with their peers.
  • Students show off their talents at the All-School Play.
April

In 2025, the Young Americans joined us for a multi-day workshop with our students, culminating in a vibrant performance for families and staff!

May

  • Students take center stage at the Student Variety Show.
  • A yearbook ceremony and distribution ensure students remember all the good times they had throughout the year.
June

  • Middle School students make and serve a celebratory end-of-year breakfast for the Administrative Team.
  • Seniors enjoy end-of-year events such as taking their Senior Class Trip, decorating their graduation caps, and writing letters to underclassmen. They’re even treated to a fun-filled trip out to lunch, courtesy of school Leadership!
  • Seniors and Final Year Grow students close out the year by ringing the James Center Bell during the final week of classes.
  • The 8th Grade Stepping Up Ceremony welcomes Riverview 8th graders to their new title – “high schoolers”
June Weekend

  • Graduation ceremonies include GROW Graduation on Saturday and High School Graduation on Sunday. Individualized speeches are made for every graduating student by faculty members, and High School Graduation ends with the students leaving the stage to meet their families directly in the audience.
  • High School students experience a classic prom, complete with dinner of their choice and dancing. Families are encouraged to join at the beginning for the Senior Promenade and to share a first dance with their student.
  • The Village of Dreams Gala is a major fundraising event at Riverview, inviting hundreds of families, community members and staff to join us under an open-air tent to celebrate. Every year, a valued member of our community is honored as the “Dream Maker”, and a paddle raise focuses on a need of the School, called the Fund-A-Dream.
  • While families are at the Village of Dreams Gala, students enjoy their own celebrations, with GROW hosting a block party and Middle and High School going on an Adventure Trip.
July

Riverview Summer Program begins, offering currently enrolled as well as new students the opportunity to enjoy a classic Cape Cod summer, while building and maintaining academic skills.

August

Summer Block Party welcomes families to campus to partake in a barbecue and campus-wide kickball game!

campus fun facts

At Riverview, traditions aren’t just for special occasions.
Fun is part of every day!

The song “Lean on Me”, sung by students,  is heavily featured at many of our events, including student art shows and even the Village of Dreams Gala

While on campus, if you yell, “Whose house is this?” everyone will enthusiastically answer, “OUR HOUSE!”

On nice days, students and staff will eat lunch and spend time in between classes on MC Greene Field, located in the center of campus
